Most of our traders are long-time Burners who deeply understand and embrace the Burn ethos.
We are fully aware of the MOOP (Matter Out of Place) issue, which is why we prioritize sustainable creators—those who offer handmade, locally produced items that align with the spirit of the Burn.
As an art-driven gathering, attendees seek unique, expressive fashion and accessories that reflect their individuality.
By curating vendors with this ethos in mind, we also help counteract the rising trend of attendees purchasing cheaply made festival wear from fast-fashion giants like Shein and Temu—where poor-quality materials significantly increase the risk of shedding microplastics and waste.

The Burn is a celebration of radical self-expression, creativity, art, and community—your outfit is an extension of that spirit! Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned Burner, here are some key considerations when putting together your look:
BURN LOOK GUIDELINES
COMFORT MEETS STYLE
The Tankwa Karoo can be scorching during the day and freezing at night. Layering is key! Bring light, breathable fabrics for the daytime and warm, cosy pieces for the evening.
Choose comfortable shoes—think boots or well-cushioned sandals. The desert is rough on bare feet!
LEAVE NO TRACE
Avoid outfits that shed feathers, sequins, or glitter—these become MOOP (Matter Out of Place) and harm the environment.
*Our traders are doing their best to make sure that their creations are not coming apart. When it doubt, please ask them on how to care for your item :)
Opt for biodegradable body glitter or fabric-based embellishments. Avoid fast-fashion pieces that may fall apart or shed microplastics. Handmade, upcycled, or thrifted pieces are perfect choices!
* If a small piece of your outfit does happen to come off, please just pick it up and put it in your pocket, so you can dispose of it when you come by a bin. Or keep it, so you can fix the item once you're back at your tent or at home.
FUNCTIONAL ACCESSORIES
Goggles & Sunglasses– Dust storms happen. Protect your eyes in style!
Headwear– Hats, scarves, or turbans help with sun protection and can be a fashion statement.
Layer it up!– Nighttime gets chilly! Furry coats, capes, and warm accessories are highly recommended.
LEDs & Reflective Gear– The desert gets pitch black at night. Light up your outfit with EL wire, glow sticks, or LED accessories so others can see you. Some of our traders created their outfits, hats and headpieces with this in mind.
EXPRESS YOURSELF
There’s no dress code—only radical self-expression! Whether you go full Mad Max, cosmic raver, desert warrior, or boho goddess, your outfit should reflect YOU.
